Cabo Verde: MpD congratulates Umaro Sissoco Embaló and hopes that Guinea-Bissau will continue on the strengthen the track on democracy
Praia, Jan 3 (Inforpress) – The secretary general of the Movement for Democracy (MpD, ruling party), Miguel Monteiro, congratulated the winning candidate of the presidential elections in Guinea-Bissau, Umaro Sissoco Embaló, and said he hoped that Guinea -Bissau reinforce the track on democracy.
Speaking to RCV, Miguel Monteiro said that if confirmed the provisional data released Wednesday by the National Election Commission (CNE) he expect all candidates to accept the election results.
“If it comes to confirming these data we naturally want to congratulate candidate Umaro Sissoco Embaló. We hope that the civility shown by the Guinean people will continue in this new phase and all those responsible will accept the results, and Guinea will strengthen the track on democracy, where the results is accepted, and the people feel the results of going to vote”, said.
As a government’s party, Miguel Monteiro points out that the MpD wants to demonstrate that Cabo Verde is aware that Guinea-Bissau could be an “important partner” for development, whether from CPLP or from the country itself.
