Crises apprising
PARTIDO AFRICANO DA
INDEPENDÊNCIA DA GUINÉ E CABO VERDE "PAIGC" won the
2014 legislative election with clear majority of 57 deputies out of 102.
Prelude, was the internal
crises within the political party after the 2014 legislative election,
and then, the dissolution of Domingos Simões Pereira government in
2015 due to lack of synchronization with the PRESIDENT; thereafter, the expulsion
of 15 deputies because they refused to vote in favor of the party’s
program. Thereby reducing PAIGC to a “LAME DUCK” with only 42
deputies.
After the political party’s failure
to approved their program at the parliament with 42 deputies only, “PAIGC”
solicited for “TEAM UP” with the second largest political
party, PARTIDO DA RENOVAÇÃO SOCIAL “PRS” with
41 deputies at the parliament.
“THE LAST STROKE THAT
BREAK THE CARMEL’S BACK” was
when, "PAIGC" refused the demand of Partido
da Renovação Social for 10 executive
position in the future government as condition of pact with the political party.
PAIGC went on to replace the
expel 15 deputies with 15 members from the political party, sworn in the 15
replacement as deputies and made them to vote in favor of their program.
The act of replacement of deputies was considered unconstitutional by the supreme court which led
to the failure of the government of Carlos Correia. This was the beginning of real dilemma that lasted
for years in Guiné-Bissau.
Subsequent governments
couldn’t survive the wave of the crises; which steered us to Guinea Conakry and
Lomé, Togo’s accord.
The international community
“P5” and ECOWAS jointly reached an agreement with the two biggest party (PAIGC
& PRS) to form a PACT, to extend the mandate of DEPUTIES which expires on April
2018, and scheduled LEGISLATIVE ELECTION on 18 November, 2018.
Aristides Gomes was picked as
the Prime Minister, whose major obligation was to form a government to organize the 18 November, 2018 legislative election.
With so many irregularities
in the registration process, largely due to lack of fund to bring in voters’
registration kits donated by Nigeria according to the government and lack of
trained agents for the registration process, the electoral commission declared only
25% of voters registered at the time limit of 20 October, 2018.
If the legislative election scheduled
on 18 Nov 2018 is not possible with only 25% of voters registered within the
registration deadline; it signifies that the government of Aristides Gomes has
failed in his mission to organize election on the agreed date; which brought
Guiné-Bissau to another state of dilemma.
The president, José Mário Vaz
realized the adversely political game been played recently by the international
community with some political opponents in the country; and decided to choose a
WEAPON for this occasion “SILENCE”
Some politicians have tried
every form of provocation to draw his reaction, example is the extension of voters’
registration deadline from 20 Oct 2018 to 20 November 2018, ahead of the
election date of 18 November 2018, without consultation.
Today, the individuals that
thought were in control of the situation has found themselves again at the wipe-end
with José Mário Vaz firmly holding the handle of the wipe.
He had meetings with various
political party and members of his security council to find a way to resolve
this present situation except with the absence of PAIGC, and others that failed
to honor his invitation the second time.
Yesterday, Wednesday, November
14, 2018, he travelled to Nigeria to meet with president Buhari; leaving
everyone bemused with his continued silence.
Nevertheless, one thing is
sure; legislative election scheduled for 18 November 2018 is MISSION IMPOSSIBLE.
